Literacy Through the Arts
With the generous support of The EHA Foundation, Inc., UNH has provided grants to its members to enrich afterschool programs throughout New York City, developing young people's literacy skills through the arts.
Some examples of Literacy Through the Arts include:
- Engaging children in the exploration of literature through parody and theatrical interpretation.
- Introducing afterschool participants to music, dance, visual art and drama from diverse cultures.
- Developing the presentation and teaching skills of "Young Storytellers".
- Fostering creativity through the reading and writing of poetry on topics selected by the children involved.
UNH also facilitates relationships between member agencies and other arts resources including The Whitney Museum, Poets and Writers, and Arts to Grow, which partners with schools and community organizations to make art classes available to low-income youth.
For further information on UNH's afterschool initiatives, please contact Snehal Majithia, Deputy Director for Member Services.

How Rudolph got a red nose
By Justin Lawrence –3rd Grade
One Christmas Rudolph was flying with Santa. When he came back from his trip he had a cold. Santa called the doctor. He said “ Rudolph has a cold!”
He took out a notebook and wrote what to do but the worst part was that he had a runny nose. He used 100 tissues each day. By September his nose was starting to burn and his nose stayed red forever!!
