BronxWorks is hiring a Program Coordinator in the Children and Youth Department for its Center for Achieving Future Education.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve on the leadership team to creating a college and career culture within the youth education and workforce portfolio.
  • Provide direct supervision to a team of three-four staff members.
  • Enhance the programs relationship with local high schools and college by conducting monthly site visits, case conference, meetings and other activities.
  • Oversee the summer experience programs such has History Makers and the Bronx Opportunity Network.
  • Monitors participants’ enrollment and active participation the program activities such as college tours, workshops and one on one sessions.
  • Maintain and build partnerships with outside agencies to enhance programming and service delivery.
  • Conduct program evaluation by reviewing staff reports and portfolios to ensure high standards are consistently met. 
  • Identify, obtain and organize educational resources, materials and curriculum guides for thematic periods.
  • Review counselor’s lesson plans with a particular focus on literacy, ensuring that activities are child-centered, age-appropriate, thematic, experiential, educationally sound and engaging. 
  • Provide assistance to counselors in the development of lesson plans and plan lessons for staff as needed.
  • Hold supervisory sessions with staff to identify progress, future goals, training needs, and support.
  • Develop program themes by providing resources, lessons and materials to infuse theme into programming.
  • Create and maintain an educationally enriching environment by managing bulletin boards, displays and library.
  • Develop enriching trip schedule that is aligned with program themes and lessons, provide college advisors with educational materials and resources and ensure that pre-trip and post-trip activities are facilitated.
  • Assist with chaperoning offsite and overnight program trips, and other activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, higher education, psychology, or another related field of study. 
  • A minimum of one year of experience in an educational or community setting.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory/management position.
  • Experience with and knowledge of best practices in youth development, higher education, workforce, retention and career exploration/assessments preferred.
  • Ability to work well with young people, school administrators, community partners and families.
  • Program design, curriculum management and implementation experience.
  • Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment with different funder goals and deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
