Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 123-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness—which significantly improve the lives of 15,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in a landmarked building, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s Women’s Mental Health Shelter at the Park Avenue Armory is an 80-bed, 24-hour program that addresses the critical issues of over 200 homeless women annually, age 45 and over, who have histories of mental illness. Through a comprehensive continuum of care and programming that includes social work services, medical and psychiatric care, intensive case management, housing placement, benefits assistance, arts and recreation, as well as food and nutrition programs, our talented, multi-disciplinary team helps clients transition from homelessness to permanent housing.




Reporting to the Shelter Director the Housing Manager will:

  • Lead the effort and collaborate with our Shelter team to find and secure appropriate, affordable housing for women in our shelter to enable them to move from homelessness into housing stability; 
  • Work with and provide guidance to Shelter staff to execute all housing-placement related tasks including, getting clients housing ready, preparing and/or reviewing completed client housing packets, and making recommendations in order to best position clients for housing placement;
  • Advocate for housing subsidies and programs on behalf of clients to ensure that they receive the appropriate housing and housing subsidies;
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with social service/housing organizations, government agencies, landlords and real estate personnel to enhance housing opportunities for clients;
  • Supervise two Housing Specialists, providing ongoing support, training, and performance management;
  • Oversee and coordinate all housing related documentation, systems and reports, including housing placement forms, client database systems, monthly housing placement reports, and all housing related data entry; and
  • Facilitate weekly housing meetings with program staff and coordinate housing themed groups with residents.


  • Master’s degree in a relevant field and one year of experience in advocacy services, case management or similar work in a direct service setting; Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in advocacy services, case management or similar work in a direct service setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with one or more of the following populations:  homeless individuals, those with psychiatric disorders, and/or individuals with chemical dependencies
  • Experience with housing subsidies/programs, as well as capability to identify appropriate, affordable housing is a plus, as is familiarity with the New York City real estate market
  • Effective writing skills and computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office( particularly Excel), and the confidence/resourcefulness to learn new computer data systems
  • High level of cultural competence, with the ability to forge strong relationships among a diverse group of staff and clients
  • Ideally, candidate will have past experience in placing homeless individuals in permanent housing in NYC.
  • An understanding of the principles of client centered service delivery, case management, and advocacy skills
  • Excellent professional judgement and high level of personal accountability
