DIRECTOR of Cornerstone & Out-of-School Youth Program

Job Description

The Director of Cornerstone & Out-of-School Youth Programs is responsible for the overall quality of the youth and adolescent programs located at our Ravenswood Community Center, any future cornerstone Centers, as well as other programs for youth and young adults not in school or the world of work. Duties include program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of our Ravenswood Community Center, our Opportunity Youth Program and the Queens Connect Workforce Development Collaboration. This includes our Young Men’s Initiative Program as well as our Riis Academy Components as per our Theory of Change Model and organizational Strategic Plan.


  • Master’s degree (MPA< MSW< MS. Ed) preferred; Bachelor degree required;
  • At least five(5) years of experience working in a community center or after school program, at least three (3) years in a supervisory position;
  • Must have and or pursue School Age Care License and maintained status throughout employment;
  • Knowledge of the public education system and positive youth development best practices;
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with others;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer application and database management;
  • Ability to perform some physical labor and work non-standard hours;
  • Ability to work independently, assesses priorities, and takes initiative;
  • High level of proficiency in administrative work;
  • Strong public speaking, writing and organizational skills.


  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to an Assistant Director as well as a team of direct service staff.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate program assigned to center-based after school, evening, Saturday and summer day camp programs, and programs for at-risk, out-of-school youth;
  • Ensure hired staff are fingerprinted by DOE and/or DOH, completion of State Clearance Review form, completed physical form with TB shot;
  • Ensure that all activities are in full compliance with DOH School-aged Child Care [SACC] and DOH Summer Day Camp regulations procedures at all times and regularly review SACC self-checklist and policies and procedures with staff
  • Provide direct/indirect supervision of all program staff on a day-to-day basis, in order to ensure that all goals, targets, and performance outcomes are met on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly performance review for all staff;
  • Work with direct reports to improve work performance through ongoing mentoring and coaching, monthly staff development, weekly anecdotes and bi-monthly one-on-one supervision;
  • Convene bi-monthly meeting team meeting and ensure that all staff meetings are properly executed;
  • Set, communicate and enforce clear standards for quality youth development programming;
  • Recommend modifications for ongoing improvement to program safety and quality;
  • Endure that all contractual and grant agreement obligations including meeting report deadlines are met, insuring accurate and timely attendance database entry, filing all contract documents, and evaluating milestones and outcomes of programs;
  • Work closely with Program Data Specialist to ensure that all relevant tracking information is entered into database; develop a tool to track, maximize continuum potential Ravenswood Youth Service Programs;
  • Work collaboratively with other Directors and Organizational Leadership to share best practices, create teambuilding, uniformity and pride throughout all Riis Academy programs;
  • Other duties as needed by the Senior Director of Programs.
