OVERVIEW: The goal of The Door’s Career and Education Services Department is to support young people in completing secondary education and successfully transitioning into post-secondary education and employment. Programs within the Career and Education Services Department (CareerED) are designed to help both in-school and out-of-school youth to set and attain their educational and career goals. CareerED services allow a young person to craft a personalized life plan defining the steps he/she will take to achieve those goals while developing the necessary skills for future life success and independence. The Door’s Bronx Youth Center aims to prepare out-of-school and out-of-work young people for meaningful placements in college and/or employment through the provision of comprehensive education and career services, which develop potential for economic self-sufficiency. The Coordinator of Foster Care Youth will be responsible for coordinating all supportive services for youth in and aging out of care at the Bronx Youth Center and managing partnerships with foster care agencies throughout New York City.



·     Work with Career Advancement Coaches at the Bronx Youth Center to identify youth in and aging out of care and provide any needed supportive services.

·     Coordinate partnerships with foster care agencies and serve as the main point of contact for agencies referring young people for services.

·     Work with the Assistant Director of System Involved Youth to recruit youth aging of foster care for the Academy and other programs at The Door.

·     Work with the Assistant Director of Education Services to connect youth in and aging out of foster care with pre- HSE, HSE, college access and bridge programs.

·     Work with the Assistant Director of Training and Placement Services and Internship Coordinator to place youth in and aging out of foster care into paid internships and unsubsidized job opportunities.

·     Provide technical assistance and guidance to Bronx Youth Center staff on issues related to youth in and aging out of foster care.

·     Using the Bronx Youth Center data management system to collect and track data on youth in and aging out of foster care including assessment information, progress notes, education services and outcomes, internships, training, employment, and retention data. Regularly review data to identify participant needs and infor

·     Supervise graduate level social work interns from social work schools in New York City.

·     Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to develop and facilitate Bronx Youth Center and Door-wide programming and events.

·     Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor and the Bronx Youth Center Director.



·   Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling or related field required, LMSW or related Master’s degree preferred, or related 5-10 years of experience in the field of system-involved youth.

·   Previous experience working with youth in and aging out care strongly required.

·   Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people

·   Two years of experience in a social service setting working with a multi-cultural young adult population required

·   Two years of experience providing employment-related case management, career readiness, and employment retention services required

·    Excellent written, oral presentation and computer skills

·    Previous experience doing outreach and conducting presentations

·    Must be organized and creative with the ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and lead teams

·   Ability to exercise sound judgment and model work readiness skills and appropriate workplace behavior at all times

·   Must work well under pressure and meet deadlines

·   Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin preferred

Salary Information

Hours: Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend hours as needed
